The largest member of the grass family, the bamboo, is commonly used for constructing structures and creating other functional and aesthetic tools. When properly treated, bamboo can be transformed to a tough yet at the same time lightweight material compared to other heavy types of wood. Bamboo can be used as an added material in construction of buildings, houses, bridges and fences. Aside from that, it can be the main component used in making bamboo furniture, tableware, artwork carving, toys and weapons.

In a typical Asian home, bamboo is widely used as a material for furnishings found inside the house and in the garden. Inside the house, bamboo can be found in living room sets, dining room tables, bed frames, wall and carved decors, dividers, panels, matting and floorings. Bamboo is a common material used for these things located within the house because aside from its lightweight property for easy relocation, bamboo permits proper ventilation to circulate in the house creating a cozy and relaxing ambience. To complete a bamboo-inspired look of house, homeowners buy bamboo area rugs which can be a good substitute for carpets.

Outside the house, homeowners oftentimes decorate the garden with bamboo water fountains and tiki statues. And for added protection against the sun or the rain, bamboo thatch and umbrella kits are installed so that whatever the weather may be, dwellers and guests can spend time bonding in the garden.
